rebecca parks and friends go shopping!Rebecca and friends go shopping!  Rebecca Parks, VR counselor in Burlington, NC (CSPD '05) organized the first annual "Shoppers Day" for people with disabilities.The day turned out to be a great success and even received coverage from local TV and newspapers. 
 

a shopper and volunteerAs reported in October, the event paired people with disabilities with volunteers who assisted them in holiday shopping. There were 50 people with disabilities participating and 87 volunteers; a local citizen has pledged 23 more certificates to school children with disabilites this year! Each shopper received a $15 gift card and goody bag, and they enjoyed cookies and drinks with Santa. Rebecca and crew raised over $1,000 and are anticipating additional corporate sponsorship next year.

debbie haizlipWhat a team! Richard O'Donnell (SENCES '04) and Debbie Haizlip (CSPD '05) work together in the VR office in Winston Salem, NC. Debbie is a Rehab Counselor for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing and Richard is an HR Placement Specialist for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. Together they provide exceptional service and dedicated expertise to their clients. Richard recently initiated VR! Working for You - an ongoing series of informational brochures with work tips. Be sure to check the link for pdf samples of their brochures and ideas. 

You can see more of Richard's work on the SENCES website where his field project (a CD manual in sign language for Spanish-speaking people) will soon be highlighted. One of Debbie's recent projects can be seen in the Current Learner section of the REO website.
