rebecca parksfrom Rebecca Parks (CSPD '05 - Burlington, NC): Rebecca Parks, VR counselor, State of NC and Amy Jones, VR counselor State of NC are co-chairing an ad-hoc committee for Counselor Retention. The goal of the committee is to look at the issues related to counselors' satisfaction with their employment. We developed the surveys based on questions already developed by the State office of personnel, focus groups, and input from professors at Auburn. We distributed the surveys in October and will be returning them to Chad Duncan, Rehab masters student at Auburn, for him to assist in the tabulations and final report. Our State Director, George McCoy is hoping to use the information we get back to help with the strategic planning of the agency.

I am also planning a Shoppers Day for People with Disabilities on Nov 30th in which people with disabilities will be paired with volunteers to assist them in holiday shopping. Each participant will receive a $10 gift card and goody bag. They will also enjoy a cookie and drink with Santa. So far we have been able to raise $700 to go towards the gift cards.
