Course Descriptions

RSED 6010/6016 MEDICAL ASPECTS OF DISABILITY (3). Medical terminology, basic body systems, common malfunctions, therapeutic services, restorative techniques, and disability evaluation for different disability groups and the vocational implications of each.

RSED 7320/7326 INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING APPROACHES IN REHABILITATION SETTINGS (3). Surveys theoretical approaches involved in individual counseling with an emphasis on persons with disabilities using an eclectic point of view and psycho-educational approach.

RSED 7010/7016 REHABILITATION PROFESSIONS, PROGRAMS AND SERVICES (3). Comprehensive examination of the evolution, nature and contemporary status of state-federal vocational  rehabilitation system including roles of the professionals within this system.

RSED 7330/7336 - GROUP COUNSELING APPROACHES IN REHABILITATION SETTINGS (3). Nature and function of group dynamics in rehabilitation settings including theories of groups, group structure, and psycho-educational strategies to be used with rehabilitation clients

RSED 6020/6026 PSYCHOSOCIAL ASPECTS OF DISABILITY (3). Theoretical constructs and practical issues for various types of physical, mental, psychiatric, and social disabilities with implications for personal, vocational, social and community adjustment.

RSED 7130/7136 ADVANCED ASSESSMENT I IN REHABILITATION (3). Principles, process and techniques used to diagnose vocationally-related assets and disabilities of the individual with disabilities.

RSED 6220/6226 CAREER AND PLACEMENT SERVICES IN REHABILITATION (3). Theories, strategies, and techniques for job development, accommodation, modification, and placement of people with disabilities with application skills needed to facilitate employment.

RSED 7150/7156 MULTICULTURAL ASPECTS OF DISABILITY (3). Competencies and standards for rehabilitation professionals including acquisition of communication skills, attitudes towards ethnic minorities, and knowledge about minority populations.

RSED 7910/7916 PRACTICUM (3). Practice in rehabilitation or community service setting aligned with degree program option. 

RSED 7410/7416 PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF CASE MANAGEMENT (3). Case Management theory and techniques as they are applied to vocational rehabilitation settings, particularly in the state agency. 

RSED 7440/7446 ETHICS IN REHABILITATION COUNSELING (3). Concerns ethical behavior for human services workers, specifically rehabilitation counselors. Its purpose is to stimulate thinking and provide a foundation regarding major ethical issues related to professional practice in the human services arena, specifically in the area of rehabilitation counseling.

RSED 7440/7446 SEMINAR IN RESEARCH METHODOLOGY (3). Designed to promote an introductory understanding of research methods employed in the social sciences. The course provides an overview of the major modes of inquiry. 

RSED 7920/7926 SUPERVISED CLINICAL PRACTICE (INTERNSHIP) (9). Comprehensive supervised on-the-job experience in a school, college or community based setting serving individuals with disabilities.

RSED 7310/7316 PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF FORENSIC REHABILITATION (PROPRIETARY REHAB) (3). Vocational rehabilitation in private sector including case management and vocational expert fitness for workers compensation, personal injury litigation, and social security.

RSED 6210/6216 OCCUPATIONAL INFORMATION (3). Identification, location, and use of data resources for job accommodation and modification strategies, labor market surveys, and job placement of persons with disabilities.

RSED 6230/6236 REHABILITATION ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY (3). Basic computer literacy; use of commercially available software, and assistive technology for use by persons with disabilities.

RSED 7440/7446 FOUNDATIONS OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELING (3).
