DEAN GIORDANO SELECTED AS A FELLOW OF THE ACOUSTICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA 


Dean Nicholas J. Giordano of the College of Sciences and Mathematics (COSAM) will be recognized on December 4, 2019, by the Acoustical Society of America as a Fellow of the Society “for advancement of computational modeling in musical acoustics.”

He will be officially recognized at the 178th meeting in San Diego, California.

“It is an honor to be recognized as a fellow of this respected organization that provides a platform for
theoretical and applied knowledge, and has set a high standard for acoustical science for the past 90 years,” said Dean Giordano.

Since 2013, Dean Giordano has been the Dean of COSAM at Auburn University. In 2018, he was named the College of Science Distinguished Alumnus at Purdue University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree and served as the Department of Physics Head from 2007-2013.

In 2006-2007, he was selected as the Speaker of the Year of the Indiana Academy of Science. In 2004, he received the Indiana Professor of the Year Award from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

He received the Computational Science Education Award from the Department of Energy in 1997 and became a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1991. Dean Giordano received his doctorate in engineering and applied sciences from Yale University.

His research interests include computational biophysics, musical acoustics and physics of the piano. In his career, he has published five books, mentored almost 20 doctoral students, participated in 50 invited
talks and has had more than 150 articles published.
