Title: Domain Decomposition Methods: History, Theory and Applications

Abstract: Due to the development of multiprocessor supercomputers and parallel computing, domain decomposition (DD) methods have become a powerful tool for numerical simulation of large-scale problems. In this talk, I will review some popular DD methods for stationary problems and discuss their extension to dynamic systems (i.e., those changing with time). My recent work in this direction, with application to numerical simulation of contaminant transport around a nuclear waste repository and ocean modeling, will also be presented.
