Location: Red Clay Brewing Company

Details:

The College of Sciences and Mathematics Office of Outreach will host a Science Pub at Red Clay Brewing Company in Opelika. Science Pub is a bi-monthly, family friendly outreach event that provides an opportunity for the community to discuss scientific topics with an Auburn University scientist. The May Science Pub will take place on Thurs., May 25, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and will feature David Maurer, associate professor of physics. Maurer is a plasma physicist and his talk is titled, “Some Like It Hot: Fusion, the Energy of the Future.” His discussion will feature the physics of the sun, challenges presented with channeling the sun’s energy, and the plasma state of matter. No scientific background is required to participate in the Science Pub, and no question is too silly to ask. All are invited. There is no cost to attend the Science Pub, but please note, proceeds from the purchase of each Drymarchon Berliner Weisse, a drink featured at Red Clay, will benefit the Alabama Natural Heritage Program at Auburn University and their efforts to conserve rare species in Alabama, such as the Indigo snake. Sodas and pizza will also be available for purchase at the Science Pub. For more information, contact Josh King at 334-734-1182, or by email at josh.king@auburn.edu.
