1C10.05 Ultrasonic Ranger

Use ultrasonic ranger and computer to measure x,v and a of a student or other moving object.

 Ultrasonic Ranger Picture

Setup Requirements: Advance preparation needed. Teacher needs to know how to use computer setup and Science Workshop / Data Studio. Software may not be on computer in classroom. May need to set up on cart before class using computer in Demo Room.

Equations: One Dimensional Motion Equations

Safety Issues: Avoid bumping into things while moving around in front of ultrasonic ranger.

1C10.10 Relative Motion

Place battery powered truck on sheet, cart or large piece of paper and pull paper while truck moves in same, opposite or perpendicular direction.

Setup Requirements: Minimal

Equations: V(AC) = V(AB) + V(BC)

Safety Issues: Prevent vehicle from running off table.

1C20.10 Penny and Feather

Drop penny and feather simultaneously in plastic tube. Compare evacuated tube versus tube filled with air. All objects should fall with same acceleration in vacuum.

!1c20_10.jpg

Setup Requirements: Hook to vacuum pump and run about 30 sec before closing valve. Screw driver may be needed to tighten and loosen clamp.

Equations: "g" same for all masses at given location.

Safety Issues: Tube may break.

1C30.10 Free Fall Timer

Time ball as it drops .5m, 1m, 1.5m, etc.

!1c30_10.jpg

Setup Requirements: Stop watch needed.

Equations: y = (1/2)gt2

Safety Issues: None

1C30.15 Free Fall Timer #2

Same as 1C30.10 with different timer. Time ball as it drops .5m, 1m, 1.5m, etc.

!1C30_15.JPG

Setup Requirements: Use PASCO timer instead of stopwatch.

Equations: y=(1/2)gt2

Safety Issues: None
