AU Math Placement

AU Students Admitted in Summer/Fall 2023 or later

For students who are admitted to Auburn
in Summer/Fall 2023 or later,
mathematics course placement
will be determined by

ALEKS Math Placement Assessment.

ACT/SAT scores will no longer be considered.

The following additional criteria may be used for placement in mathematics courses:
  • Credit awarded from AP/IB test scores;
  • College credit earned through dual enrollment or transfer credit.
Incoming students must complete the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment before attending orientation.  If a student does not have an ALEKS score, AP/IB credit, or dual enrollment/transfer credit, the student will not be eligible to register for a mathematics course following the orientation. Students taking Aleks after orientation have no guarantee of a seat when trying to register for a mathematics course. If a student does not attain a score needed for placing in the mathematics course required for their major, the student will have to take the appropriate set of prerequisite courses. For specific information about various mathematics courses and CORE mathematics requirements, please refer to the Auburn Bulletin.

NOTE: If you were admitted to Auburn prior to Summer/Fall 2023, please visit aub.ie/oldmathplacement for information about mathematics course placement.
