Travel Grants:

Auburn University:

GAB Student Travel Grant. Funded by the AU Geosciences Advisory Board. Travel to academic meetings. Open to undergraduate and graduate students in Geology and Geography.

    • Fall: October 1 (Travel Dates: August 15 to December 31)
    • Spring: February 15 (Travel Dates: January 01 to August 14)

COSAM Graduate Student Travel Fund.  COSAM provides modest support for COSAM graduate students to present their dissertation or thesis research at scientific meetings. Funds are rarely provided for workshops and are never provided for research effort or travel to research sites.

AU Graduate School -- Graduate Travel Grant. Travel to academic meetings.

 

Other Organizations:

Alabama Geological Society -- Student Travel Grant. Travel to professional conferences. Open to undergraduate and graduate students.

Research Grants:

Auburn University:

GAB Student Research Grant. Funded by the AU Geosciences Advisory Board. Research needs and activities such as equipment, lab supplies, and travel costs. Open to undergraduate and graduate students.

Hargett - Dunston Undergraduate Field Research Award.  The purpose of this award program is to foster research in the Earth Sciences by providing support to undergraduate students in geology who are engaged in independent projects that involve a substantial component of field geology and mapping.  Award recipients must be Geology majors at Auburn University and in good academic standing. Awards are to be applied to expenses directly related to research tasks, including fieldwork, laboratory analyses, etc. Funds also may be used to purchase capital equipment and to attend conferences to present research findings.

Spencer Waters and Dan Folse Memorial Award. Established in memory of Laura Folse’s father and her husband.  Support for all types of geological research.  Open to undergraduate and graduate students in AU Geology.

Robert S. Fousek Award for Research in Economic Geology. The purpose of this award is to support AU geology students who have an interest in economic or hard rock geology. The intent is to support students based more on need and promise than on GPA records.  Funding for research needs and activities such as equipment, lab supplies, and travel costs (but not travel for conference presentations). Open to AU graduate and undergraduate students majoring in Geology only.

Geological Society of America

Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies.  Annual student grants in aid for graduate students

American Association of Petroleum Geologists. 

  • Grants-in-Aid Program. Promotes research in the geosciences. Grants are made to provide financial assistance to graduate students (currently enrolled in Masters or Ph.D. programs) whose thesis research has application to the search for and development of petroleum and energy-mineral resources and/or to related environmental geology issues.
  • L. Austin Weeks Undergraduate Grants. Annually awards more than $85,000 in funds, providing undergraduate-level geoscience students and student-led geoscience organizations (student chapters, associations and clubs) with $500 grants to support their efforts.

Sigma Xi Student Grants-in-Aid. Funding for research needs and activities such as equipment, lab supplies, and travel costs.
