Auburn University Strategic Plan
Priority 4: Developing Our People
Recognizing that faculty and staff are central to the life of the University, the Auburn University System will redouble its efforts to support, develop and strengthen our people.
Initiative 3: Better develop employees to enable them to fulfill their potential, raise their productivity and make a greater contribution.
GOAL 42: Auburn University continues to develop online training courses for employees.
"Online credit courses will be made available to employees as part of our existing policies. Any additional costs will be incurred centrally. In addition, 50 online continuing education courses (ranging in duration from a few hours to several days) will be developed. Completion of these courses will compose a portion of the annual review process for staff. Finally, online Spanish language training will be made available to employees at no cost."
Summary of Progress Achieved:
- The Office of Human Resources has developed and provided approximately 20 online training courses for employees.
- Online courses include 12 courses from our "Legal Foundations of Supervising University Employees" series, and at least 5 existing courses (or programs) that are already being offered on line. Auburn University also offers hundreds of on-line courses to our employees through an external vendor, Element K.
- In addition to the new on-line courses being developed for the Legal Series, the following online continuing education courses/programs are available: (1) Element K, an online vendor, which offers for a fee "libraries" of programs (2,341 separate courses) in computer desktop applications, advanced courses in IT networks and operating systems, and general business courses for managers, supervisors, and employees; (2) online Spanish training (new); (3) an introduction to Performance Management for supervisors; (4) a supervisor's orientation on CD; (5) an introduction to the University's compensation and classification system; and (6) seven administrative courses for temporary employees in admin jobs.
