From our very beginning as an institution of higher education, foresight and planning have given Auburn the direction necessary to provide outstanding academic programs.
In June, the Auburn University Board of Trustees took steps to continue in that direction by approving a new, five-year Strategic Plan to guide the university’s direction by focusing on five priorities through 2018. The action helps ensure that Auburn will continue to be a leader in traditional areas as well as emerging disciplines. The new plan will help us succeed in the ever-changing educational landscape while we also maintain our longstanding strategic commitments in instruction, research, and outreach.
This document represents the best ideas and thought leadership of the faculty, staff, and student representatives, as well as members of faculty governance and university administrators, to shape a strategic plan that supports faculty excellence, generates economic development, increases graduation rates, and better prepares our students to achieve their career goals.
This new Strategic Plan follows the 2008-2013 plan, which was the result of input from hundreds of people on campus and across the state of Alabama—people who engaged in vigorous discussion and contributed their ideas to help Auburn make the most of its opportunities and overcome its challenges.
It’s that kind of attentive collaboration that makes Auburn University what it is, and I have no doubt that these efforts will improve Auburn’s quality of programs and enhance its reputation.
This website represents the culmination of Auburn University’s most recent strategic planning process, initiated by the president and led by the provost during the 2012-2013 year. The site identifies five bold strategic priorities, supported by numerous measurable goals and commitments developed from ideas provided by members of the Auburn Family. Designed to guide Auburn University over the next five years, this plan provides a framework for excellence in all aspects of the institution’s mission.
Building on the accomplishments of the university’s 2008-2013 Strategic Plan, this new plan outlines several emerging priorities and goals that will allow Auburn to capitalize on its strengths, enhance the quality of its contributions, and promote the success of its students, faculty, and staff. Through the strategic commitments outlined, Auburn University will more fully realize its vision of becoming an outstanding land-grant institution.
The following plan carefully acknowledges the strengths Auburn must exert and the targeted opportunities it must embrace over the next five years to ensure continued institutional progress toward that shared vision.
