Auburn University homecoming events begin Sept. 15

Auburn University will host a variety of homecoming events beginning Friday, Sept. 15, through Sunday, Sept. 17. 

"We look forward to homecoming weekend every year because it is an opportunity for the entire Auburn Family, including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, fans and the community to come together and celebrate the Auburn spirit," said Lady Cox, assistant vice president for student engagement in the Division of Student Affairs.

Homecoming weekend coincides with the Office of Parent and Family Program's Fall Family Weekend that features many activities for visiting families of students.

A homecoming parade will be held on Friday, Sept. 15, beginning at 6 p.m. in downtown Auburn. The parade will follow a route beginning on the corner of Thach Avenue and South College Street, proceeding through downtown Auburn and ending on Thach Avenue by the library. The parade will feature floats competing in the Omicron Delta Kappa Float Competition.

Candidates for Miss Homecoming, the Auburn University Marching Band, Tiger Paws, Miss Auburn, Miss Auburn University, Aubie, the cheerleaders and other local groups will also participate in the parade. A pep rally will follow on Samford Lawn.

Jan Davis, former NASA astronaut and Auburn alumna, will be the speaker for the This is Auburn Speaker Series Friday, Sept. 15. She will present "An Auburn Astronaut: My Journey into Space" at 3 p.m., at the Auburn Alumni Center in conjunction with Auburn University Libraries' Discover Auburn Women of Distinction, a lecture series celebrating 125 Years of Auburn Women.

Gameday festivities on Saturday, Sept. 16, include the Auburn Hospitality Tailgate, hosted by the Auburn Alumni Association in the Auburn Alumni Center three hours prior to kickoff at noon.

The weekend will conclude with the Brunch and Browse, featuring various eateries and shops in Downtown Auburn, on Sunday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Events are sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, the Student Government Association, the Office of Parent and Family Programs, the Office of Alumni Affairs, the Auburn Downtown Merchants and the City of Auburn.
