Auburn University Outreach has teamed with Delta Sigma Theta and Chi Omega sororities for the event, "Tie-Dye with Pat Dye" for diabetes awareness on Wednesday, March 28, from 3 to 7 p.m. on the campus green space outside the Auburn University Student Center.

With a donation of $3 or more, participants will have the opportunity to tie-dye a T-shirt orange and blue. T-shirts will be provided. Coach Pat Dye along with Auburn alumnus and two-time Super Bowl champion Kendall Simmons will be on hand from 4 to 6 p.m. for photos and autographs. Simmons was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2003 and dedicates his time to diabetes awareness and advocacy.

Auburn's School of Nursing, the Harrison School of Pharmacy, the Student Nurses Association and the Student National Pharmaceutical Association will provide free blood glucose screenings along with educational and diabetes prevention information in an effort to raise awareness for the disease which affects nearly 500,000 Alabamians.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Camp Seale Harris located in Jackson's Gap, Ala. The camp offers programs to encourage and inspire youth with diabetes to achieve their full potential despite diabetes. Representatives from Camp Seale Harris will be present to share firsthand experiences on the impact the camp has had in the lives of many diabetic children.

"Our number one goal for this event is to directly impact Camp Seale Harris by raising money in support of their mission," said Delta Sigma Theta member Avery Curtis. "We also hope that through this event, people will not only gain awareness about diabetes, but become inspired to learn more about how they can reduce the risks."

There will be food, prizes, giveaways and face painting, and WEGL radio will serve as DJ of the event. Miss Auburn University Emily Jordan will be in attendance and the AU Rhythm dance troupe will perform. The event is sponsored by the Auburn University Office of Outreach, Harrison School of Pharmacy, School of Nursing, Copycat and Chick-fil-A.
