NEW AU CENTER TO BOLSTER STUDIES OF ALTERNATIVE FUELS
With the escalating worldwide demand for new sources of energy, Auburn University is launching a new research center to bolster research already under way or planned for the near future in several schools and colleges. Interim President Ed Richardson recently told more than 60 scientists and administrators from across campus that the university will provide a one-year grant to launch the new Auburn Alternative Fuels Initiative at the start of the 2006-07 fiscal year on Oct. 1.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY SETS STATE FUNDRAISING RECORD
Recent gifts to all 12 colleges and schools and significant and generous endowment giving have enabled Auburn University’s “It Begins at Auburn” campaign to set the record for the largest campaign fundraising effort by any university in Alabama, bringing in more than $392 million to date.

AU TO HONOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS
Mark your calendars! The entire Auburn community is invited to come celebrate AU’s outstanding academic achievement Sept. 7. The Faculty Awards for Excellence in Instruction, Research and Outreach will be held at the Telfair Peet Theatre. A social begins at 4 p.m. and the ceremony starts at 4:30 p.m. This event is part of AU's year-long sesquicentennial celebration and marks the first time these annual awards have been given in a combined formal ceremony. The celebration will also honor Alumni Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Award winners and Alumni Professors. Visitors may park in either the Comer Hall or Alumni Center parking lots. Tiger Transit will route between the two lots and the theatre from 3:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. To view program, click here.
 
GAME DAY WEB SITE A HELPFUL GUIDE FOR FOOTBALL TRAFFIC, EVENT INFORMATION
The Tigers kick off the 2006 season against Washington State this Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 6:45 p.m. A new post-game traffic plan is one of several new components to this year's Game Day at Auburn plan. To help make your visit to the Plains more enjoyable, visit www.auburn.edu/gameday for the latest information on parking and traffic, special events, and exciting pregame opportunities on football Saturdays. U.S. NEWS RANKS AUBURN AMONG TOP 50 PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES FOR 14th CONSECUTIVE YEAR
Auburn University is ranked 39th among public universities nationwide, according to an annual survey released by U.S. News & World Report this month. The ranking marks the 14th consecutive year the magazine has ranked AU among the nation’s top 50 public universities.

RAPTOR CENTER HOSTING FIRST "FOOTBALL, FANS AND FEATHERS" FRIDAY
The Southeastern Raptor Center will host educational, birds-in-flight raptor programs each Friday this fall before home football games. The programs, "Football, Fans and Feathers," will begin at 10 a.m. and noon in the 350-seat Edgar B. Carter Educational Amphitheater on Raptor Road just off Shug Jordan Parkway. Two dates will have only one program, Sept. 15 at 10 a.m. and Oct. 20 at noon. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the Auburn University Bookstore in Haley Center on AU's main campus. Tickets will not be sold at the amphitheater or at the raptor center. Children under three years old are admitted free.
 
AU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS MOVES UP SIX SPOTS IN LATEST U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT RANKING
The College of Business has been ranked 51st among the nation’s undergraduate business programs, up from 57th in 2006 and 2005, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2007 edition of America’s Best Colleges. Among public institutions, AU’s College of Business is ranked No. 31 in the nation, marking the fourth consecutive year the College has attained a top 40 business rating.

AU RAPTOR CENTER TO RELEASE BALD EAGLE SEPT. 2 NEAR WEST POINT
Auburn University’s Southeastern Raptor Center will release a bald eagle back into the wild Sept. 2 near West Point, Ga. The site of the release is by West Point Lake dam, near the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ West Point Project office. Officials from the Raptor Center and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will arrive at the release site at 8:30 a.m. EST, and will release the bird at 9 a.m. The public is invited.
 
AU UNVEILS POLICY ON DIRECTED STUDIES, ANNOUNCES ADMINISTRATIVE CHANGES
Auburn University interim President Ed Richardson released details of an expanded AU policy on directed studies, announced two administrative changes and provided an update into the university's investigation into a complaint filed regarding such courses. The AU directed readings policy outlines more stringent requirements for eligibility for directed studies courses as well as for the approval of and academic standards for those classes.

AU REACHING OUT TO CITY GOVERNMENT AFFECTED BY HURRICANE KATRINA
Auburn University Outreach’s Center for Governmental Services is leading an initiative to provide professional services for evaluating and rebuilding New Orleans. Don-Terry Veal, CGS director, assembled a team from AU to provide redevelopment support and assistance to the Algiers Economic Development Foundation in Louisiana. Over the past year, Algiers became a central point to serve the rest of New Orleans and has been noted for its efforts in thinking differently about rebuilding and redeveloping the city.

AU RESEARCHERS DEMONSTRATES NEW BATTERY-CHARGING TECHNOLOGY DESIGNED FOR USE BY U.S. MILITARY
A platoon of U.S. soldiers in todays high-tech military will use around 650 disposable AA batteries during a five-day mission. Researchers from Auburn University's Space Research Institute, with their partner Radiance Technologies Inc., have demonstrated a technology designed to provide a reliable and portable system of supplying batteries to our soldiers.

ALUMNI INVITED TO ATTEND ANNUAL VETERANS DAY CEREMONY
Alumni and friends are invited to attend the City of Auburn's Annual Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday, November 10 at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial, located on the corner of Ross Street and Glenn Avenue. This years ceremony marks the 6th Anniversary of the memorial's dedication. Ceremony attendees are encouraged to park at the Development Services Building and Felton Little Park. Handicapped parking will be available on Ross Street, which will be closed during the ceremony. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move to the City Council Chamber. “RURAL STUDIO: EDUCATION OF A CITIZEN ARCHITECT” OPENS SEPT. 5 AT AU’S JULE COLLINS SMITH MUSEUM OF FINE ART

The work of Auburn University School of Architecture’s internationally acclaimed Rural Studio will be featured in the exhibition “Rural Studio: Education of a Citizen Architect” opening Sept. 5 at AU’s Jule Collins Smith Museum of Fine Art.

Eight home games this season…Eight Hospitality Tents…join the Auburn Alumni Association for Auburn’s largest tailgating party at the corner of Donahue and Roosevelt on campus. We open 3 hours before each kick off, and close 30 minutes before kick off. Current members will enjoy free food, a live band, face painting and more. All non-member guests over 12 yrs. are $5. A Collection of Recipes from Alabama’s Public Universities
We're inviting students, faculty, staff and alumni of Alabama's public universities to submit recipes for a 10th anniversary cookbook titled "The Scholarly Gourmet: A Collection of Recipes from Alabama’s Public Universities." Each person is welcome to submit up to five recipes. The cookbook will not only include recipes, but also stories of well-known alumni, which should make for great reading. Cookbook will be available in 2007. Deadline for submitting recipes is October 1.
