Quality of life awards to honor Battery Park, Ratan Tata
A globally renowned philanthropic executive and a public corporation that helped raise the World Trade Center area from the ashes of the Sept. 11 bombings will be honored at the 12th annual International Quality of Life Awards at the United Nations in New York Dec. 5.

AU professor's book on first man on moon hits stores
More than 36 years after Neil Armstrong took his famous first step on the moon, historian James Hansen of Auburn University is launching a first of his own – the first authorized biography of the enigmatic astronaut.

Groundbreaking ceremony held for Auburn University Research Park
Alabama Gov. Bob Riley visited Auburn University on Thursday, Nov. 17, to lead groundbreaking ceremonies for AU’s new research park. Ceremonies took place at the park site located south of the main campus at the intersection of South College Street and Shug Jordan Parkway.

AU to turn 150 ’Neath the Sun-Kissed Sky
Produced by AU’s Office of Communications and Marketing, ’Neath the Sun-Kissed Sky views AU through the camera lens and attempts to give a sense of what more than 200,000 alumni have embraced during their time in the loveliest village - the Auburn Spirit. The publication also includes a few archival photos and bits of AU history to make the present day images even more meaningful.

AU dedicates Raptor Center Amphitheater
Auburn University's southeastern Raptor Center now has a place that the public can get up close and personal with birds of prey. Thanks to the generous gift by Carol Clark of Princeville, Illinois, the center has opened the Edgar B. Carter Amphitheater on the SRC grounds. The facility was officially dedicated Nov. 16.

Jenda named associate provost for diversity and multicultural affairs
Auburn University Provost John Heilman has appointmented Overtoun Jenda as AU’s associate provost for diversity and multicultural affairs.

AU featured in the Princeton Review's “Best 237 Business Schools”
The Auburn University College of Business has been named among the “Best 237 Business Schools” for 2006, according to New York-based education services company, The Princeton Review.

A new scholarship at Auburn University will provide assistance to minority students while honoring the memory of four Civil Rights heroes.

Auburn Alumni Association names Lifetime Achievement Award winners
The Auburn Alumni Association has presented its 2005 Lifetime Achievement Awards to Edmund C. Dyas, a Mobile orthopedic surgeon, architect Batey M. Gresham of Nashville, Albert James Smith, retired founder of Power Systems Engineering Inc., of Houston and E. Travis York, Jr. of Gainesville, Fla., chancellor emeritus of the University of Florida.

University Celebrates Global Tiger Week

To join in the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education's recognition of International Education Week, President Richardson proclaimed November 14-18 AU Global Tiger Week. Activities held during the week included a reception to honor faculty members’ involvement in international education and an International Education Information fair in Haley Center.
