AU TO RETIRE GOLDEN EAGLE TIGER DURING GEORGIA GAME
Auburn University officials will retire the school's famed 26-year-old golden eagle Tiger during the Nov. 11 football game against the University of Georgia. The pregame ceremony will begin 25 minutes prior to kickoff.

SALLY JONES HILL NAMED AU CAMPAIGN CO-CHAIR
Sally Jones Hill will succeed the late Buddy Weaver as campaign co-chair for the "It Begins at Auburn" Campaign. Hill served as the AU Foundation President from Oct. 1, 2004, until Sept. 30, 2006, and as vice president and member since 1986. She assumed her post as campaign co-chair at the beginning of October.

CHARLES HUDSON NAMED PRESIDENT OF AUBURN UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION
The Auburn University Foundation Board has named Charles Hudson, a 1950 AU graduate in Business Administration, as its president. An AU Foundation Board member from 1987-93 and from 2000 to the present, Hudson assumed the position of president of the Foundation Board on Oct. 1. He previously served the board as chair of the Administrative and Finance Committee.

ALTERNATIVE FUELS EXPERTS ASSEMBLE AT AUBURN UNIVERSITY
As America searches for ways to reduce its dependence on non-renewable, imported oil from politically volatile parts of the world, a conference at Auburn University last month brought together many of the nation's leading experts on alternate sources of energy.

COACH'S SON PROCLAIMS 'NEW ERA' FOR ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The Auburn Alumni Association recently elected Ralph Jordan Jr. '70 of Norris, Tenn., son of the late Auburn Tigers football and basketball coach Ralph "Shug" Jordan '32, as its president for the next two years. Jordan's term runs through October 2008.

RETIRED AU PROFESSOR RECEIVES PAMELA WELLS SHEFFIELD AWARD
The 2006 Pamela Wells Sheffield Award for service and commitment to Auburn University was presented to retired AU assistant professor, Sandra Bridges Newkirk, of Opelika, at the AU vs. Arkansas State football game on Nov. 4.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY NAMES ALDERMAN NEW DEAN OF ENROLLMENT SERVICES
Auburn University President Ed Richardson named Wayne Alderman as dean of enrollment management. Alderman, who will report directly to the president, will provide leadership to the new AU Office of Admissions.

AU PUBLISHES REPORT ON DIRECTED STUDIES PROGRAM
A committee of academic administrators has found that irregularities in Auburn University's directed studies program were limited to one professor each in the sociology and adult education departments and caused by a lack of oversight and poor record-keeping.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE, DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION DEDICATES NEW BUILDING
Auburn University's Department of Building Science got a new home when AU and the College of Architecture, Design & Construction dedicated the M. Miller Gorrie Center last month.

AU RESEARCHER ON TRACK TO A NEW TREATMENT FOR DIABETES AND OBESITY
The research of Auburn University nutrition scientist Suresh Mathews may result in a therapeutic treatment for diabetes and obesity, two conditions that affect millions of people worldwide.

AU RESEARCHERS TO TEST ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FOR VOTERS WITH DISABILITIES
Researchers in the Auburn University Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering have partnered with Indiana University, the AU Center for Governmental Services and IBM to develop Prime III, an advanced electronic voting system that enables people with certain disabilities to vote in elections with ease and privacy.
