Heilman assumes role of AU provost

The AU Board of Trustees has approved John Heilman as the university's provost. Heilman, who has served Auburn in various capacities including professor, dean and presidential adviser, was chosen from among 10 nominees for the position. Those finalists -– Heilman, Mechanical Engineering Professor Christine Curtis and Associate Dean of Business and Engineering Outreach William E. Sauser –- each made public presentations to the campus community.

Richardson’s decision to recommend Heilman to the Board came after consultation with faculty leaders, AU’s deans and vice presidents and representatives of the Multicultural Diversity Commission, and after consideration of comments submitted from those who attended the public presentations.

“I am grateful to all who supported me in seeking this opportunity and especially appreciate Dr. Richardson’s confidence in my ability to serve as the university's chief academic officer,” Heilman said.
