AUBURN TO HOST 2006 MINI BAJA EAST, LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
Approximately 700 college students from around the continent will go head to head in competition as the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering hosts Alabama’s first Society of Automotive Engineers competition, the 2006 Mini Baja East, April 13-15.
Founded in 1976, Mini Baja is an annual SAE student competition to design, build and race a prototype of an off-road, all-terrain vehicle. It consists of East, West, and Midwest regional events. Last year, teams from 273 North American colleges competed in the event.
The April events, which will take place on the Auburn campus and on a specially-built course in nearby Opelika, include a 100-mile endurance race, design report and evaluation, a log pull, and competition in acceleration, land and water maneuverability, and suspension and traction.
About 200 volunteers are needed to help make this 67-team event a success. To sign up please visit http://east.minibaja.org and click on “Volunteers.” The organizing committee will contact you regarding schedule and responsibilities. Training will be provided.
