"Celebrate Auburn! A-Day Weekend 2005" starts Friday
Auburn will host its annual spring football game on Saturday, March 19 at 1 p.m. at Jordan-Hare Stadium which highlights a full weekend of activities on the Auburn campus and in the city. More
 
Richardson names finalists for provost position
Auburn University interim President Ed Richardson announced this week three finalists for the university's provost position. The three finalists – Christine Curtis, professor of chemical engineering in AU's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, Senior Presidential Assistant John Heilman, and William Sauser, associate dean and professor of Business and Engineering Outreach at AU – will each give public presentations on Tuesday, March 22, in Broun Hall Auditorium on the AU campus. Dean delivers keynote address at international hunger conference in India
June Henton, dean of Auburn’s College of Human Sciences, discussed Auburn’s role in the global “War on Hunger” in the keynote address at a United Nations-affiliated conference last week in Jamshedpur, India. More
President: Diversity plan for Auburn will work
Interim AU President Ed Richardson told the University Senate last week that a strategic diversity plan he received on March 2 will help the university set measurable and achievable goals for diversity across the spectrum of campus life. Read column
Engineering professor wins Academy Award
Technology has followed art in imitating life, and for his part in marrying animation with human movement, Nels Madsen of Auburn University’s engineering faculty received an Academy Award for Technical Achievement last month in Pasadena, Calif. More
Leischucks endow major new awards for top teachers
Auburn has launched a new presidential awards program to recognize and reward the university’s best teachers through a major endowment from two emeritus senior administrators. Later this year, interim President Ed Richardson will present the inaugural Gerald and Emily Leischuck Endowed Presidential Awards for Excellence in Teaching, which include a $10,000 stipend with each award. University to participate in homeland defense training
Auburn University will participate in a $1.1 million contract from the state of Alabama to provide homeland defense training to emergency responders and other agencies. Auburn’s participation will be through its license to use the Joint Conflict and Tactical Simulation (JCATS) software. More
AU survey: Though most Alabamians feel safe, minorities fear crime more
Almost nine out of 10 Alabamians feel safe or very safe from violent crime or serious property crimes. However, less than half of minorities share that confidence in their safety from crime. This is among the findings of a recent Ask Alabama public opinion survey conducted by the Center for Governmental Services at Auburn University. Ask Alabama releases monthly results of polls on topics of interest to Alabamians. More
State Treasurer Ivey returns to campus as Leader-In-Residence
Kay Ivey, Alabama state treasurer and a 1967 graduate of Auburn University's College of Education, is the college’s 2005 Keystone Leader-in-Residence. Ivey spent the day on Monday, March 7, visiting with faculty, staff and students. More
Main chosen Humphrey Award winner by American Pharmacists Association
Auburn University alumnus and State Finance Director James A. Main is the recipient of the 2005 Hubert H. Humphrey Award given by the American Pharmacists Association. The award, named for the noted pharmacist and former Vice President of the United States, was established in 1978 to recognize APhA members who have made major contributions in government and/or legislative service at the local, state, or national level.
