Key minority retention strategies under way in new AU Associate Provost of Multicultural Affairs and Diversity Office
Several new Auburn University programs designed to recruit and retain minority faculty and students are under way, according to Overtoun Jenda, AU’s Associate Provost for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs.

Lowders pledge $1 million to AU College of Veterinary Medicine
Auburn University trustee Bobby Lowder and his wife Charlotte of Montgomery have pledged a $1 million gift to Auburn’s College of Veterinary Medicine as part of the ongoing “It Begins at Auburn” campaign.

Smiths give $1 million to education
Wayne and Cheryl Glass Smith of Nashville, Tenn., both 1968 graduates of Auburn University, have committed $1 million to enhance current and emerging priorities within the AU College of Education.

Golden eagle "Tiger" diagnosed with skin cancer
Tiger, Auburn’s 26-year-old golden eagle, has skin cancer. The Southeastern Raptor Center has been monitoring her condition closely and plans to fly two other eagles if Tiger is not able to make her pregame flights this fall.

AU alumna endows scholarships to honor AU Provost Heilman
Susan Karamanian, a 1979 Auburn graduate, has established a $25,000 scholarship endowment for students in the College of Liberal Arts in honor of AU Provost John Heilman.

Auburn women win first track and field national championship
The Auburn women's track and field team won its first ever national title last week at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, scoring 57 points to easily outdistance Southern California, which placed second with 38.5 points. The Tigers posted All-American performances in nine events, including two individual national champions and three second-place finishers, and broke two school records during the four-day event.

AU study: Horse industry impact nears $2.4 billion a year in Alabama
The horse industry is strong in Alabama, playing a pivotal role in maintaining the state’s rural infrastructure and bolstering Alabama’s economy by $2.39 billion annually.
