Jay Gogue begins as Auburn University's 18th president
Auburn University this week welcomed back to campus Dr. Jay Gogue, who took office Monday as the 18th president in the university's 151-year history. Gogue, who holds two degrees from Auburn, devoted his first day to getting acquainted with leaders of major campus constituencies, including a meeting with student leadership first thing in the morning. He also spent time with faculty leaders, deans, staff representatives and vice presidents. The day's activities also included a teleconference with representatives of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. Gogue later visited Auburn Montgomery to meet a cross section of AUM's campus leaders and returned to Auburn late in the day for an informal social function with a small group of community leaders.
Gogue earned bachelor's and master's degrees in horticulture from Auburn in 1969 and 1970, respectively, and a Ph.D. in horticulture from Michigan State University in 1973.
The President's Web page has a "Get To Know Dr. Gogue" section with video segments in which he answers questions about his new role. The Web site also has photographs from Monday. To visit the site, click on www.auburn.edu/administration/president/gettoknow.html.
