Bush
Nominates AU Alumnus to be FDA Commissioner
President Bush has nominated Auburn University alumnus Dr. Lester
Crawford to be commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration.
Crawford, 66, a 1963 AU veterinary graduate and Demopolis native,
has been acting commissioner since March 2004. Pending Senate
approval, Crawford will become the first veterinarian to serve
as FDA commissioner. More |

Students named to USA Today All-Academic Team
Two Auburn University students on Thursday were named to USA
Today’s All-USA College Academic Team. Caesar Garcia, a student
in AU’s Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, was named a member
of the Academic All-Stars First Team. Joshua Jarrell, a student
in AU’s College of Sciences and Mathematics, was selected for
the Academic Second Team. More |

Update
on Search for AU Provost
Interim AU President Ed Richardson has begun an internal search
for a successor to Provost Thomas R. Hanley, who last week submitted
his resignation from the provost position, effective March 1.

UAB to Collaborate on $18 Million Heart Study
AU will collaborate with the University of Alabama at Birmingham
as part of an $18 million National Institutes of Health grant
for research into what remains a stubborn, steady killer: congestive
heart failure. More |

Confirms Sam Ginn as Trustee
Both
the Senate Confirmation Committee and full Alabama State Senate
have unanimously confirmed Sam Ginn as Auburn's newest trustee.

Survey Finds Alabamians Support Marriage Amendment
A majority of Alabamians strongly support a constitutional amendment
banning same sex marriage. The issue is being debated in the
current legislative session. This is among the findings of the
winter Ask Alabama public opinion survey, conducted by the Center
for Governmental Services at Auburn University. More |

Marches in 55th Inaugural Parade in January
The
Auburn University Marching Band was selected to participate
and marched in the 55th Presidential Inaugural Parade following
the inauguration ceremony of President George W. Bush on Jan.

Basketball Team to Assist in "War on Hunger"
“This One’s For the Girls” will be held Feb. 20 when the Auburn
women’s basketball team hosts No. 1-ranked LSU for the annual
Cram The Coliseum. Fans can benefit the World Food Programme
