Auburn University's Department of Building Science, in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction, has a new name and designation and will now be known as the Earlon and Betty McWhorter School of Building Science in honor of the former Board of Trustees president pro tempore and his wife.

The McWhorters recently committed $5 million to the College of Architecture, Design and Construction and directed $3 million of the total toward endowments in what was the Department of Building Science. At the November meeting of the Board of Trustees, the board voted unanimously to recognize the quality of the program by making it a school and to pay homage to the McWhorters by renaming the program in their honor.

AU's Foy Information Line showcased on NBC Today show
Auburn University's Foy Information Line was featured on the NBC Today show Nov. 27 when host Matt Lauer discussed the information line, 844-4244, and placed a call to the service, which is staffed by AU students. The hot line started in the 1950s as a resource for students at Auburn who were trying to locate campus services and find information about grades or course schedules. Over the years, it has evolved into a comprehensive information database. To read about the segment, see http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/21983239/. The Auburn University Board of Trustees' planning and facilities committee Nov. 29 approved the final aspects of a $10.6 million renovation of guest rooms in The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.

"We are very proud to be the front door of Auburn University," said Hans Van Der Reijden, hotel general manager. "This will be the first renovation of the rooms since the hotel opened in 1988, other than carpet. The improvements will add to the Auburn experience for our guests who see the hotel as their first point of contact with the university."

Gifts of more than $1 million came from 23 donors. These gifts totaled over $54 million, or 41 percent of the total giving for the year. An additional 30 percent of the fiscal year's gifts were from donations of $100,000 to $999,999.
