Shaping the way we live

Auburn’s architecture program is one of the oldest and most highly ranked in the United States. Our culture of thinking, making and doing is enhanced by immersive, place-based learning experiences that prepare students for successful and rewarding professional careers.

Rural Studio, a student-centered design/build program in the College of Architecture, Design and Construction, has partnered with Fannie Mae to make affordable housing more accessible.

The effort, known as the 20K Initiative, is being shared with other industry groups and educational institutions as part of an effort to address the shortage of affordable housing across the U.S.

Industrial design

Improving the world around us

Industrial designers combine art and science to improve the user experience of everyday objects. Auburn industrial design undergraduate and graduate programs are renowned for consumer product design and innovation, point of purchase design, and branding.

The programs in the School of Industrial and Graphic Design are among the oldest and most highly ranked in the nation and include the only National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) accredited degrees in Alabama.

Students have the opportunity to design and develop projects in collaboration with industry partners in studios that replicate the professional processes and relationships that exist between a product design team and the product manufacturer. Recent collaborators have included Emerson Tool, PlayCore, NASA, Smuckers and CSP/Aptar.

Student experiences in the School of Industrial and Graphic Design include study abroad and study beyond opportunities at the futures studio in Mobile, Alabama, as well as studios and workshops in colleges and universities in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, France, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

The school also holds annual events to engage the community and broaden student experience. Design Interaction, a day-long event, brings industry and professional experts to campus to lecture and participate in class activities and workshops.
