Beyond the Classroom

Auburn offers an exceptional student experience. Students develop essential skills for success through innovative academic and extracurricular programs.

Forestry and Wildlife Sciences

An arial view of a river and forest

Natural resource and bio-based industries are rapidly expanding. Auburn’s School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences offers innovative degree programs and hands-on experiences that prepare students to lead at the intersection of business, technology and the environment.

Alabama’s forest production and processing industry contributes nearly $21 billion to the state’s economy and positions it to be a leader in the development of a sustainable bio-based economy that includes wood processing, chemicals and energy and bioplastics. The sustainable biomaterials and packaging degree program prepares students for in-demand careers within bio-based industries such as nanotechnology, packaging and construction.

Consumer spending on outdoor recreation contributes $887 billion to the U.S. economy, employs 7.6 million Americans and generates $125 billion in tax revenues. Graduates of the wildlife enterprise management program will hit the ground running with lodges, hunting preserves, fishing resorts, outdoor experience companies and many other types of consumptive-use businesses. The degree program is one of only two of its kind in the country.

The geospatial and environmental informatics degree program provides students with rigorous training within the areas of information technology, spatial science, data analysis, natural resources and ecological modeling to prepare them for in demand technological careers where “Big data” drives decisions. Graduates will be prepared for a wide variety of career opportunities within public agencies and government, private corporations and consulting firms.

Equestrian

Developing well-rounded leaders

Auburn Equestrian has a long history of winning. Since becoming an intercollegiate sport at Auburn in 2002, the team has earned six NCEA national titles and two SEC championships. In 2018-19, Auburn was the first equestrian team in the history of the sport to go undefeated.

Led by head coach Greg Williams, a 1986 Auburn alumnus, the team’s student-athletes excel in both the classroom and the arena. Equestrian teams have accumulated 82 All-SEC and Freshman All-SEC honors, as well as 69 NCEA Scholastic All-Americans.

Aviation

Propelling students to success

A partnership with Delta is giving Auburn students a head start in the aviation industry. Auburn is one of eight institutions selected for the Delta Pilot Propel Program. The program offers a defined, accelerated path for qualified candidates to earn their flight certifications, build their experience and meet requirements to become a Delta pilot.

Auburn is home to one of the country’s oldest university flight programs, and students benefit from experiential learning and instructors and faculty with industry experience. The recently opened 23,000-square-foot Delta Air Lines Aviation Building was designed exclusively for aviation education with enhanced classrooms, debriefing rooms for student pilots and flight simulators, including an Airbus 320 commercial airline simulator.
