President's Corner

I am honored to be the 2014-2015 President of the AU BGPSA!! In 2010, I first joined the organization as a member. Then in 2011, I volunteered as Treasurer to help the AU BGPSA reach out to more underrepresented graduate students. Over the years, I witnessed its growth in membership and staple programming, and I am proud to say that the organization is doing better than ever! Last year, we started the Juan Gilbert Lecture Series that will continue to feature well-established, minority scholars who serve as role models to AU black graduate student community. We are also excited to launch the first graduate minority recruitment weekend. This program will expose undergraduates from underrepresented groups to AU graduate degree programs and prepare them for the graduate school admission process. We are confident that in collaboration with the AU Graduate School and Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs, this recruitment weekend will result in a future increase of minority students enrolled in a graduate program at AU. Also, we plan to reach out to a larger audience with a Youtube channel and bimonthly newsletter highlighting academic achievements by our members and updates about our events. Aware of a graduate student's need for some down time, the AU BGPSA hosts many socials events, including tailgates, galas, and bowling nights. In addition, the organization looks forward to continuing our relationships with groups such as the Graduate Student Council and the Black Student Union, and is always working towards meeting and collaborating with new student organizations. On behalf of AU BGPSA, we welcome you to join our organization. We serve as a support system, resource, and a way to make new friendships!

Be Great!!
