General Instructions for Joining the AUMB
For information on the general process for becoming a member of the Auburn University Marching Band Tiger Eyes, please visit the Join the AUMB page.
Audition Eligibility:
All students must be accepted to Auburn prior to the audition. If you have not applied, please do so immediately. This can be accomplished online at http://www.auburn.edu/admissions. Note that your admission to the university will be verified prior to the audition. If you are a current Auburn University student, you must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or greater.
Audition Details:
Auditions for all three lines are held on the same day, at Goodwin Music Hall on the Auburn University Campus. Auditionees are encouraged to audition for two lines to better their chance of making the Tiger Eyes. They have the option to audition for all three lines. They will be asked to number their first and second choice, if they make more than one line. Results will be posted within 24 hours of the actual auditions.
The 2009 Tiger Eyes Auditions will be held on Saturday April 4th.
- Majorettes 8am-11am
- Dancers 12pm-3pm
- Flags 5pm-8pm
An audition clinic will be held on Saturday, February 28th, from 9am-12pm and 1:30pm-4:30pm. This clinic is not mandatory, but highly encouraged.
NOTE FOR WINTERGUARD INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION PARTICIPANTS:
An alternate audition date is available for those participating in the Winterguard International Competition on the normal audition date. This alternate audition will be held on March 22nd, at 1pm. The alternate audition will be identical to the April 4th audition - including attire, solo routine, fundamentals, and group routine. Participants will be videotaped and scored by the April 4th panel of judges and results will be posted after all auditions have taken place on April 4th.
Those wishing to participate in the alternate audition should email Mrs. Gresko at ashleygresko@auburn.edu immediately to reserve a spot.
Attire:
Attire is the same for all three lines: black leotards, flesh-colored tights and jazz shoes or dance tennis shoes. No boots or character shoes may be worn. (Hair and make-up for all three lines should be completed as the individual candidate feels is most appropriate for a performance.)
Equipment:
Batons and flags for respective units as needed for your individual routine. Each candidate will provide her own cassette tape or CD (music of candidate’s choice). The tape or CD should have 1 minute of music or less for the audition routine. It is important to have a good tape/CD that is ready to start at the beginning to avoid delays to the auditions. A backup tape/CD is suggested. If your music does not work for some reason, you are to continue performing. Do not ask to start over with your routine.
Audition Format:
The audition will be organized and scored in the following sections:
- Individual Routines (1 minute maximum 45 second minimum)
- Performance of Basic Skills and Travel given in combinations (Demonstrated as a large group)
- Performance of Learned Routines (Demonstrated in small groups)
Requirements: Majorettes and flags are encouraged to incorporate footwork into the routine while using their respective prop. For Majorettes, the routine must include at least 30 seconds of one-baton and at least 15 seconds of two-baton twirling.
