Potential participants in the 18th Annual Auburn University Symphonic Honor Band and their directors should read these notices on parking and ACT Testing during the festival.
The ACT Test and other conflicts
February 14th, the Saturday of the Auburn University Honor Band Festival, is an ACT Test date. We are sorry about the conflict, but it could not be avoided. To take the test, a student would have to miss all of the Saturday morning session of the honor band, which is approximately one-third of the total rehearsal time. We feel that this is unfair to the many students who could attend all of the rehearsals if invited to participate in the Festival.
Therefore, any student who is planning to take the ACT Test on February 14 MAY NOT also participate in the Auburn Honor Band Festival. In addition, if a student has a conflict of any kind, which would necessitate missing any part of the Honor Band Festival, he/she MAY NOT participate in the Festival.
If any of your students who are accepted for the Festival are planning to take the ACT on that Saturday or have any other conflicts, please do not let them register for the Festival. Please notify us so that an alternate can be selected from our waiting list. Thank you for your understanding.
Parking on the Auburn Campus
Finding a parking place on the Auburn campus is extremely difficult, even during a normal work week. Though we enjoy having guests on campus, parking is an even greater challenge during special events such as the honor band. Parking passes are available, but they are of little assistance since there are so few spaces in the vicinity of Goodwin Music Building. Though it is out of our control, we do apologize for this inconvenience and hope that you will observe the following procedure for parking on Thursday, February 12th and Friday, February 13th.
- When you arrive at the music building, drop off Honor Band Festival participants, along with their instruments, in front of the Goodwin Music Building.
- The driver should then continue west on Samford Avenue and park in the C Zone lots at the Intramural Fields (across Samford Avenue from the football practice fields)
- The driver can then ride the shuttle bus that will be provided back to the Goodwin Music Building
- After auditions are concluded, the driver should ride the shuttle bus back to the parking lot, then drive to the music building and pick up the participants.
If you receive a ticket for parking on campus without a permit, we cannot have it excused. If you park illegally, there is a possibility that your car will be towed!
Please take care to follow the above procedures. Thank you for your participation.
