
About the Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is the premiere performing ensemble in the Auburn University Band Program. Conducted by the Director of Bands, membership is by audition and is open to any Auburn student. All members of the Symphonic Band receive a band scholarship. The band rehearses three hours per week during fall semester and five hours per week during spring semester.
How to Join
Symphonic Band auditions are held during the spring and summer for the following year. Additional auditions for the Symphonic Band are held near the end of fall semester for the spring season, as openings occur. Woodwind and brass auditions consist of three parts.
- Several common major scales
- A prepared piece, provided on our website
- Also be prepared for a possible sight reading exercise
Percussion auditions also consist of these three parts.
- Rudiments on snare drum and several major scales on a mallet instrument
- A prepared piece of your choice on each instrument: snare drum, timpani, and keyboard mallets
- A short sight reading excerpt on each instrument

Students interested in auditioning should sign up on our online form for an audition time. Percussionists should also email Dr. Rosener as soon as possible to inform him of your intent to audition.
Credit
One hour credit is available for participation in any of our concert groups. This credit may be used as an elective in any curriculum.
Cost
Members of the Symphonic Band supply their own formal attire for concerts. There is no other cost except tuition. Band members do NO fund raising.
