Dr. David M. McCullough ’74

Professor of Music and Director of Bands
Campbellsville University

David McCullough is a native of Montgomery, Alabama and holds the B.S. and M.Ed. degrees in music education from Auburn University (1974, 1975), the M.M. degree in music performance (horn) from Florida State University (1980), and the D.M.A. degree in music performance (horn) from the University of Georgia (1990). Prior to his appointment to the faculty at Campbellsville University, Dr. McCullough was Band Director at Madison County High School in Gurley, Al (1975-1978) and was Director of Bands at West Georgia College in Carrollton, GA (1981-1986) where he founded the school’s first marching band in 1982.

Joining the faculty of Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, KY in 1991, Dr. McCullough is founder of the Campbellsville University Tiger Marching Band (1992) and the Campbellsville University Wind Ensemble (1998). His current duties include conducting the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, and teaching applied horn and various undergraduate and graduate courses within the School of Music.

Dr. McCullough is active as a conductor, performer, clinician and adjudicator within his areas of specialty. He has twice conducted the Kentucky Baptist All-State Youth Orchestra (2000 and 2003) and is founder of the National Civil War Band Festival, directing the 2000 and 2003 sessions of the NCWBF held on the campus of Campbellsville University.

Dr. McCullough’s honors include his selection by the Campbellsville University Board of Advisors as the University’s 1994 Distinguished Professor for Academic Excellence and his selection by the Kentucky Music Educators Association as the 1996 College/University “Teacher of the Year.” He and his wife Marlow (AU ’76) reside with their four children in Campbellsville.
