Physical Education - Area V AREA V: PRE-PROFESSIONAL MAJOR AND ELECTIVE COURSES
FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION MAJORS AT AUBURN UNIVERSITY (19 Semester Hours) The following
guidelines and restrictions apply to the degree in Physical Education which
includes options in Physical Education/Teacher
Education and Exercise Science. ************************************************************************* Physical Education/Teacher
Education Common AGSC Requirements Students who
plan to transfer into Physical
Education/Teacher Education should take into consideration the following
recommendations as they plan their course selections. It is highly recommended
that students select: ·
PHL 106 Introduction to Philosophy,
PHIL 206 Ethics and Society, or IDS 102 Ethics in Area II ·
BIO 101 Intro to Biology I and
BIOL 102 Intro to Biology II OR BIO 103 Principles of Biology I and
BIO 104 Principles of Biology II in Area III ·
HIS 101 Western Civilization I and
HIS 102 Western Civilization II OR
HIS 121 World History I and HIS
122 World History II in Area IV ·
BIO 201 Human Anatomy &
Physiology I, PED Foundations of Physical Education, and HED 224
Personal and Community Health in Area V AU Specific Requirements for Area V No more than 19
hours may transfer in Area V for the 120 degree hour program in Physical Education/Teacher Education.
A total of 10 hours were specified in Area V by the AGSC as required for this
major. The remaining 9 hours should include additional Auburn requirements in
the major, as noted below. ·

Elective (2 SH) Additional Requirements for Teacher Education Programs Transfer
students are admitted into a pre-teacher education program. Criteria for

encouraged to complete the following requirements for admission to Teacher
education prior to transferring to Auburn University: ·

plan to transfer into the Exercise
Science option should take into consideration the following
recommendations as they plan their course selections using the Physical
Education Articulation Guide. It is highly recommended that students select: ·
PHL 106 Introduction to Philosophy,

BIO 103 Principles of Biology I and
BIO 104 Principles of Biology II in Area III ·
HIS 101 Western Civilization I and

CHM 111 College Chemistry I (4 SH) The Exercise Science Program has restricted
enrollment. Transfer students are admitted into Pre-Exercise Science.
Guidelines for application to the Exercise Science program are in the College
of Education section of the AU Bulletin. The current AU Bulletin is available

Hours ·
Electives, if any, should be
selected from the disciplines covered in Areas I - IV, being cognizant of
restrictions specified in this document. ·
Developmental, remedial, or
technical courses will not transfer. ·
A maximum of four semester hours in
physical education may transfer. ·
No transfer credit will be awarded
for math courses below the state-approved core level of MATH 110 or MATH 112.
·
Only courses taught at the freshman
and sophomore level at Auburn University may be elected. Courses approved in
Area V in other majors may be consulted. Students may petition Auburn
University to pre-approve courses selected under Area V that are not
mentioned for this major under Area V (contact Robin Martin, martroh@auburn.edu).
