Collections
The Davis Arboretum was begun as a collection of native trees
of the Southeastern United States. Over the years this
collection has been expanded, not only increasing the number of
tree species, but also native shrubs and herbaceous plants. The
addition of more diversity in native
herbaceous material is a current focus, since there are
thousands of species of wildflowers and grasses. The
Arboretum has also established areas of native communities or
habitats that represent various ecosystems in Alabama. As the
plantings and diversity have increased, so has the wildlife that
has taken up residence here and the diversity continues to
expand.
