Administrative and Professional Assembly

September 14, 1995

2:00 p.m. - Graduate School Conference Room, Hargis Hall

The Chair, Jim Stone, called the first meeting of the newly elected Administrative and Professional Assembly at Auburn University to order at 2:10 p.m. Representatives present: Shawn Asmuth, Fred Bobo, Alesia Boyd, Sandra Young (for Bill Compton), Kim Durbin, Carl Gagliano, Robert Gottesman, Teresa Hall, Ellyn Hix, Angela Jacobs, Bruce Lewis, Catherine Love, Minnie Melton, Michael Miller, Liza Mueller, Betty Reese, Jim Stone, Sherry Sydnor, Ted Trupp, and Teresa Vest.

J. Stone welcomed the Assembly representatives, summarized the purpose of the Assembly, and outlined the day's business. S. Asmuth, Chair-elect, historically recounted the events, work, and individuals involved in bringing this organization to where it is today. Asmuth described the process involved in writing the Constitution, briefly discussed critical areas of the document, and encouraged each Assembly representative to soon become familiar with it.

C. Gagliano suggested that each Assembly representative be provided a list of the A&P personnel they represent. B. Lewis suggested that the minutes from each Assembly meeting be made public. J. Stone agreed to address both requests.

J. Stone announced that the Nominations and Elections Committee had recently been formed and distributed a listing of its representatives: Debra Armstrong-Wright, Jim Ferguson, Evelyn Foster, Pat Green, Janice Johnson, George Konstant, Ken Pylant, Karen Sharpless, and Marcie Smith.

T. Vest explained that the Nominations and Elections Committee would receive its charge from the Executive Committee at its September 20 meeting. By September 19, each Assembly representative is to submit a list of names of A&P personnel from their representative group whom they believe would be strong candidates for service on the standing committees. They should send nominations to J. Stone or S. Asmuth. These two officers will be responsible for forwarding nominations to the Nominations and Elections Committee.

B. Lewis motioned that the Chair charge the Nominations and Elections committee with the responsibility of submitting a list of names that is at least one-third larger in number than that required to populate each committee. These extra nominees will be designated as alternates. L. Mueller seconded the motion and the motion carried.

J. Stone discussed two areas of pending business. Stone has made a request for an Assembly operating budget for fiscal year 1995-96 to Gerald Leishuck, Executive Assistant to the President. A response to this request has not yet been received. The Faculty Senate has offered some Senate seats to the Administrative and Professional Assembly. The Assembly will need to decide how to respond to this offer.

The next A&P Assembly meeting is scheduled for January 23, 1996. Time and location will be determined later.

Assembly representatives drew to determine by lot each representative's term length. The representatives and their respective term limits are as follows:

One Year: Bill Compton, Ellyn Hix, Bruce Lewis, Catherine Love, Lis Mueller, Teresa Vest.

Two Year: Fred Bobo, Aleisia Boyd, Robert Gottesman, Michael Miller, Betty Reese, Sherry Sydnor.

Three Year: Kim Durbin, Carl Gagliano, Teresa Hall, Angie Jacobs, Minnie Melton, Peggy Stallworth, Ted Trump.

At 3:15 p.m. R. Gottesman motioned for adjournment. T. Hall seconded the motion and the motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Kim Durbin
Secretary
