What is PTSIG?
|
PTSIG (Physical Therapy Special Interest Group) is a group of students bonded by the common interest of pursuing physical therapy as a career. This group accomplishes its purpose through bi-monthly meetings with guest speakers, surface anatomy lectures, and fellowships. Speakers include physical therapy admissions personnel and specialists in the field of physical therapy. Fellowships will be in the form of casual get-togethers where we will discuss and encourage each other in the steps necessary to gain admission to physical therapy schools.
Anyone who is interested is welcome to join PTSIG. There is no application process, but we do ask for a membership fee of $10 each semester. These fees help pay for out of town guest speakers and for an end of the year party during elections.
Being a member of PTSIG is a great item to have on your resume, especially if you are interested in going to Physical Therapy school. It is also a great place to meet others interested in your field. PTSIG has a good reputation with the PT schools in our area and can provide useful advising tips, commonly asked interview questions, and guidelines for application and admission to graduate school.
We are dedicated to advising students in the field of Physical Therapy and, we are always willing to answer any questions you may have, such as: when and where to take the GRE, when and how to start accumulating volunteer hours, what schools require which prerequisite courses, and what to consider when choosing a school. PTSIG is a great group to be involved in and you will gain a lot of experience and knowledge.
When and where does PTSIG meet? PTSIG meets on the FIRST and THIRD THURSDAY of each month at 6:00 pm. Typically, the meetings are held at Rehab Works, an outpatient clinic located next to Kinnucans, on the corner of Donahue and College, unless a special meeting place has been announced. |
