Group Tour FAQ

Learn about Large Group Tours

What is a "Group" tour?
This tour is for large groups of high school or college-aged students who are visiting campus together. Large groups range from 9 to 100 prospective students. Group tours can also be arranged to include an information session with an admissions advisor.

When are the group tours?
Group tours can leave from The Quad Center, Tuesday - Thursday at 9:00 am, 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. All times are Central Time.

What grade levels can take a group tour?
High school grades 10 - 12 or groups of college transfer students can be accommodated. Elementary or middle school students cannot be accommodated in a group setting through our office. If you have a group of students in this age group, you are more than welcome to visit Auburn on your own, and we would encourage you to visit www.auburn-opelika.com for suggestions of things to do while in Auburn. You might also try the Jonathan Bell Lovelace Athletic Museum and Hall of Honor for other visit opportunities.

How long do the tours last?
Groups of 25 or more will be given a bus tour of campus on your bus. This tour generally lasts 20 minutes. Groups of 24 or less have the choice of either a walking tour (45 minutes) or a bus tour (20 minutes).

Our tour guides are trained to give riding bus tours of campus on your bus. This type of tour is encouraged and widely used by many groups and generally lasts 20 minutes. If you have more than one tour bus, generally one tour guide per bus is allotted. Your tour guide will also direct your bus driver around the streets of campus while giving the tour.

Who gives the tour?
The tour is given by trained current students (called Student Recruiters ) who are able to give the history and current uses of university buildings, inform visitors of university traditions, and provide their own views and perspectives of the Auburn student experience.

Is there a fee for the tour?
No.

Do we have to make a reservation for the tour?
Yes. Group tour reservations are mandatory.

What are the busiest times for tours?
Group tours are generally most popular in March and late Spring. Our online tour calendar will tell you how many spaces remain for a specific tour day and time.

Can an advising session be included?
Yes. The group has the opportunity to meet with an admissions advisor before or after their tour. It is mandatory to let our office know if you would like an advising session. An advising room must be reserved in advance and information must be put together for your group 30-45 minutes.

How can I schedule a campus tour?
You may call (334) 844-6382, or you may schedule one online by selecting "Schedule a Group Tour" at the top left of this page.

How will my tour reservation be confirmed?
You will receive a confirmation email if you provide a valid email address to us when scheduling your tour. This email contains very important information about your visit. Also, if you schedule a tour at least 7 business days in advance, you will receive a confirmation packet in regular US mail.

Can I view my tour reservation online?
Yes. You can view your tour reservation online anytime by clicking here . You will need your PassCode you received when scheduling your tour. This alpha-numeric code can be found in your confirmation email at the very bottom.

Editing your tour

Can I change the day or time of a Group Tour?
Not usually. Group tours require advanced notice for preparation of materials. Please call (334) 844-6382 to see if your request can be honored.

Before you arrive

What if it is raining / planning to rain for my tour?
Bus tours will not be affected. Walking tours will still proceed if the rain is light to moderate. walking tours will not go out in severe weather or if there is a chance for severe weather in the near future.

What should I wear for the tour?
Visitors taking bus tours can wear what they wish. Visitors on walking tours should wear casual clothes. Walking shoes are suggested. If rain is the forecast, don't forget an umbrella or poncho! You can view the weather for Auburn University here .

Can we get a campus map and directions?
If you call us far enough in advance we can send you a confirmation packet that includes directions to campus and a campus map. Your confirmation email will have web site links with driving directions and parking instructions. For an online campus map (with a printable PDF format) click here .

Parking varies depending on the type of group and how many people are in the group. You should consult your confirmation email for directions concerning parking.

You should bring a copy of your confirmation email and the information we mailed to you so you know where to park and when to arrive.
