FAQ: Admissions
What are the admission standards for freshmen? Auburn University is seeking to admit a freshman class that:
In order to meet these goals, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will consider the Grade point average and ACT/SAT score. We encourage any student interested in attending Auburn to compete the application process. We expect our students to be adequately prepared to succeed academically at Auburn as evidenced by their admissions test scores, high-school grades, and educational preparation. All interested students will be considered on an individual basis. Students wishing to enter Auburn as a freshman in the summer or fall of 2009 may apply to Auburn as early as June 1, 2008. A complete application consists of a completed and signed application form, a $40 application fee, the high school transcript, and an ACT and/or SAT test score (either including the writing portion). An application acknowledgement letter will be mailed within one week of receipt of admission application. Admission decisions will be made starting October 1, 2008, and complete applications will be reviewed for an admissions decision every 4 - 6 weeks thereafter. For transfer students, application materials include the Auburn University Application for Admission (available on our web site at Online Application and an official transcript from each college or university you have attended. Also, ACT/SAT test scores and an official high school transcript are required if you have completed fewer than 30 semester credit hours (48 quarter hours) of college credit before submitting your application. Requirements for transfer admission include a minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA (4.0 scale) on all college work completed and eligibility to re-enter the institution last attended. Transfer students who have completed 30 semester hours (48 quarter hours) must have earned a cumulative 2.5 GPA. These hours must include three semester hours (five quarter hours) in each of the following: English (college-level composition or literature), history, mathematics (preferably precalculus) and natural science with a laboratory. How will Auburn make the admission decision? Each student must complete the following core curriculum requirements by the end of the high school senior year:
In addition to an evaluation of core classes, Auburn will consider high school grade point average (GPA) and ACT and/or SAT scores. When will I receive notification of my admission decision? What is the average GPA and test scores of entering freshmen? The average GPA is 3.61, ACT Composite is 25, and SAT score is 1140 out of 1600; however, the Writing component for the ACT/SAT is required for assessment. What if I have been home-schooled? Applicants who complete their high school education through a home school program, must meet all regular AU admissions standards. This includes the completion of the core courses required for all freshmen students who enter AU. Particularly, science courses must have a documented lab component. Each home school applicant will be given an individual review by the appropriate advisor. Home school applicants are asked to complete no more and no less than any other applicant. What about orientation? When is it? Where can I get registered for classes? All admitted freshmen are mailed Camp War Eagle orientation registration materials in March. Transfer students are sent SOS information upon receipt of their $200 admission deposit.
