Auburn is a small, friendly university town located on the beautiful plains of eastern Alabama, about 50 miles east of Montgomery, Alabama's capital, and 115 miles southwest of Atlanta, Georgia. Other nearby cities are Birmingham (110 miles northwest) and Columbus, Georgia (35 miles east). The Gulf Coast of Florida is about four hours away by car. Auburn enjoys a warm and sunny climate with mild winters. It has excellent health and recreational facilities and a low crime rate.

Auburn is ranked as one of the Top 10 Places to Live in 2010. It has a population just over 50,000 and has the feel of a small town with everything you would expect from a major city, except for the traffic. Auburn is a bike-friendly town with bike lanes around the University.

City of Opelika

Opelika, a city of quaint charm and rich in heritage, enters the new Millennium with a promising future. Named with sister city Auburn as part of one of the country's newest Metropolitan Statistical Areas, Opelika is growing by leaps and bounds while maintaining a high quality of life for its 25,000 residents. It remains one of the few cities to provide low-cost electric power through a municipally-owned electric department.

Jule Collins Smith Museum

The Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center hosts plays, ballets and has an art studio. Auburn University's Telfair Peet Theater features plays and musicals. The 29,000 square foot Jule Collins Smith Museum of Art houses the university's art collection, including works by Georgia O'Keefe, Jacob Lawrence and John James Audubon.

Entertainment & Recreation

Concerts, clubs and professional sporting events are a short drive away in Birmingham and Atlanta. Locally, Chewacla State Park has 696 acres offering a variety of recreational activities. In the Auburn are, there are six 18-hole golf courses open to the general public, including the world-class Grand National course on the famous Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
