AUBURN'S COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING TO HONOR NASA'S WHITAKER

AUBURN -- Ann F. Whitaker, deputy director of science for the Marshall Space Flight Center at Huntsville, has been chosen as an outstanding Materials Engineering Alumni Award by Auburn University's Sam Ginn College of Engineering.

She will be honored on April 27 at an 11:30 a.m., reception at the AU Hotel and Dixon Conference Center.

Whitaker has been associated with Auburn's research program through the National Space Science and Technology Center. Her research focus is materials science, power and high- energy physics.

Whitaker, who received her doctorate in materials engineering from AU in 1989, has a long and distinguished career with NASA, dating back to 1963 when she joined the MSFC.

Her awards include the Presidential Rank of Meritorious Executive, MSFC Nominee for Women in Science and Engineering Achievement Award (Lifetime), the NASA Exceptional Service and Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medals and 1999 Holder of one patent and three invention awards.
