AU ENGINEERING PROFESSOR CITED BY GEOSYNTHETICS SOCIETY
AUBURN -- The International Geosynthetics Society has presented David Elton, associate professor of civil engineering at Auburn University, with its first IGS Service Award.
The presentation was made to Elton at a geosynthetics conference in Portland, Ore.
Elton has been an active member of the IGS for more than 10 years. He served as the fourth editor of the IGS News for much of that time.
In presenting the award, IGS President Richard Bathurst noted Elton's service to the IGS and the profession, and the work he had done to promote geosynthetics and the society.
Elton has been a member of the AU Civil Engineering Department for 16 years, and has been active in geosynthetics research and teaching at Auburn for much of that time. He also has been the recipient of several research grants and an NSF geosynthetics teaching grant. The AU faculty member is a registered professional engineer and teaches courses in foundation engineering and soil mechanics in addition to research and extension work in those areas.
