AUBURN LIBRARIES TO OFFER INTERNET-BASED SEMINARS AUBURN -- Starting Thursday and Friday, Auburn University Libraries will offer a series of seminars to help university faculty, staff and graduate students surf the Internet with ease.
"Electronic Journals in the Sciences and Engineering" will be offered Thursday, at 3 p.m., and on Friday at 10 a.m., at the first floor instruction lab of Ralph Brown Draughon Library.
Sessions are also scheduled in March, April and May.
Marcia Boosinger, chair of Reference and Institution Services at Draughon Library, says the seminars were prompted by focus group studies conducted in 1999.
"What we found out from several focus groups last year is that faculty come with their classes to the library but we heard from them that they would like more instruction focused on faculty needs," she said. "We also thought it was important to include staff, since many of them use the Internet in the course of doing their job."
The other seminars will focus on "Electronic Journals in the Social Sciences," "Document Delivery: To Your Desktop" and "To Your Door; and Truth and the Web."
All seminars are free to AU faculty, staff and graduate students, but advance registration is required by completing the online registration. Those who register will receive an e-mail confirmation.
A space will be reserved for each person requesting to attend.
"Our spaces are limited and we want to accommodate as many people as possible," she said. "We plan to offer the classes again if there is demand."
The March, April and May seminars will include
