AU FRESHMAN HELPS HONOR FATHER THROUGH GRADUATE AID

AUBURN -- Auburn University freshman Virginia Bradley of Birmingham has assisted her grandfather in endowing a graduate fellowship in AU's School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences in memory of her father.

Bradley, an English major, and her grandfather, John Miller Bradley Jr., of Birmingham, presented a check for the $100,000 endowment to AU President William V. Muse and Richard Brinker, dean of the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences.

The gift honors John M. Bradley III, who died in 1992. He attended graduate school at Auburn in the mid-1980s, earning a master's degree in forestry from AU in 1987.

"Professors who worked most closely with John Bradley III and knew him best describe him as a very dedicated graduate student whose research and scholarship were of the highest quality," said Brinker. "We are pleased that the Bradley family chose to remember Johnıs ties to Auburn with this fellowship."

Interest earned from the endowment will provide financial support for future graduate students in forestry.

Brinker noted that John Bradley Jr. -- father of John Bradley III and grandfather of Virginia Bradley -- was a founder of Resource Management Inc., a nationally prominent forest land management company.

Muse said he was pleased to see the family present a memorial gift that will help future generations at the same time another family member is entering the university.

Also present for the presentation were Molly Bradley, wife of John Bradley III, and Isabela Bradley, wife of John Bradley Jr.
