AU'S BLACK CAUCUS RECOGNIZES THOSE WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
AUBURN -- Auburn University's Black Caucus has recognized several outstanding university administrators, faculty and students who have who assisted African-Americans in the past year.
The ABC Honors Awards and Recognition Program recognized those who have been instrumental in supporting the ABC causes.
They included: Board of Trustees Award, Trustee Bessie Mae Holloway of Prichard; Department Head or Director Award, Holly A. Stadler, head of the Department of Counseling and Counseling Psychology in AU's College of Education; and Faculty Senate Chair Award, Glenn R. Howze, last year's chair of the AU Senate.
Two special awards -- the W.L. Strain Award and the Precedent Award -- were also awarded to Montgomery attorney Solomon Seay Jr. and David Wilson, associate provost and vice president for Outreach at AU.
The Strain Award is given to a person who has spent their life mentoring, supporting and advancing equal opportunities for African-Americans and one who has demonstrated unselfish and unrelenting ability.
It is named for W.L. Strain, who retired in 1999 from the Alabama Cooperative Extension System after 45 years of service. Strain helped create unprecedented opportunities for blacks and other minorities in the extension system.
The Precedent Award is based on presentation of an example or rule to others in exhibiting a spirit of collaboration with members of underepresented groups.
