Boosinger will take over Sept. 1 for retiring Dean J. Thomas Vaughan, who has headed the veterinary college since 1977. "Dr. Boosinger's accomplishments as a scientist and an administrator, plus his familiarity with our programs in veterinary medicine, make him the ideal person for this interim position," Parks said. "Dean Vaughan's retirement leaves some tremendous shoes to fill, but we believe this college, one of the finest in the country, will be able to make a smooth transition." Parks said he will appoint a search committee to identify candidates for the dean's position. AU has had only five deans of veterinary medicine in the program's 103-year history. Boosinger, a native of Indiana, holds the D.V.M. and Ph.D. degrees from Purdue University. He is also board certified in the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. Boosinger came to Auburn in 1983 as an assistant professor of veterinary pathology. He previously was staff pathologist to the Aerospace Medical Research Laboratory's Toxicology Division at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. In addition to teaching and research duties at Auburn, Boosinger since 1989 has been an evaluation site coordinator for the National Library of Medicine's basic pathology computer assisted interactive video series. As an instructor, Boosinger received the 1992 MSD AgVet Award for Creativity in Teaching. # # # aug95:AU-boosinger CONTACT: Boosinger, 334/844-3691.
