---------------------- N E W S F O C U S ---------------------- NEWS/EVENTS OF NOTE AT AUBURN UNIVERSITY -- July 2-8, 1995 Auburn University - University Relations (334) 844-9999 ---------------------------------------------------------------- 6/27/94 Bob Lowry ARMSTRONG APPOINTED GENERAL COUNSEL AT AUBURN UNIVERSITY AUBURN -- Lee Armstrong, a staff attorney for Auburn University since 1989, has been appointed general counsel for the university, effective July 1, says AU President William V. Muse. Armstrong will replace Thomas Samford III, who retires, effective Friday. "I'm pleased to appoint someone with Lee Armstrong's ability and Auburn experience," said Muse. "This is obviously a key position for the university." Armstrong, 40, a native of Bradenton, Fla., was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in 1983 after graduating from the University of Alabama School of Law. He also received his B.S. in economics at Alabama. Armstrong was a law clerk and research assistant for former Alabama Chief Justice C.C. "Bo" Torbert from 1983-1984 and was a staff attorney from 1984-1989 for Alabama Chief Justice Sonny Hornsby prior to becoming university counsel at AU in 1989. An Air Force veteran, Armstrong is a member of the Lee County Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the National Association of College and University Attorneys. # # # june95:AU-armstrong
