-------------------------- N E W S R E L E A S E ---------------------------- Auburn University - University Relations (334) 844-9999 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6/9/95 Sam Hendrix AUBURN VET SCHOOL FORMS LARGE ANIMAL ADVISORY COUNCIL AUBURN -- The Department of Large Animal Surgery and Medicine in Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine has established a 25-member advisory council to assist the department. "We are not satisfied with the regional average, so to speak," said Dean J.T. Vaughan. "Our goal is to be the best, and we want our advisory council to help us in getting there." The new advisory council is composed of men and women from various segments of the equine and cattle industry. Dwight Wolfe, head of the department, said the Advisory Council members' collective experience and broad contacts will help AU faculty stay current or ahead of changes in the industry. "Computers are more common in dairy and swine health practice now than are needles and syringes," he said. "We will seek guidance and leadership from this group as we all seek to learn more about advances in medicine and animal health." Council members are: Joy Goodwin Adams, a 1976 Auburn graduate and co-owner and operator of a horse and cattle farm in Pike Road; Dr. J. Lee Alley, state veterinarian and 1956 AU graduate; Dr. William Baker, a 1968 AU graduate who is president and owner of a veterinary clinic in Versailles, Ky.; Dr. H.B. Bartlett, a 1964 AU graduate who is president of a Montgomery soft drink bottling company and owner of a beef cattle and quarter horse ranch; Dr. Skip Bartol, associate professor of animal and dairy sciences at AU and a leading expert in uterine biology; Dr. N.T. Camp, a family practitioner in Jasper who also owns and operates Llamas, Camps & Friends; Glynn Debter, a Horton bank executive who raises purebred and commercial cattle; Pat Dye, former AU athletic director and head football coach and now an active horse and cattle owner; Ned Ellis of Fort Deposit, a 1953 AU graduate and farm owner; Benjamin Hardaway III, chairman of the board of The Hardaway Company of Columbus, Ga., and vice president of the Georgia Wildlife Federation; Dr. Phil Hardee, a former AU student government president who is now an orthodontist who operates a large diversified cattle farm in Monroe County; Danny Hogan of Dexter, Ga., a diversified farmer who raises horses and is 1995 Federation Saddle Club president; Dr. Chuck Keiser, a 1985 AU graduate and president of Animal Hospital Services in Danville, Ky.; William Killingsworth of Leeds, a 1966 AU graduate who is president of the International Andalusian Horse Association; Mason Lampton, vice president and chief operating officer of The Hardaway Company in Columbus, Ga. ,founder of the Columbus Steeplechase at Callaway Gardens; Dr. Dale Lowry, a 1977 AU graduate who owns a Talladega veterinary clinic and is a member of the Marianna Greene Henry Special Equestrians Board of Directors; William Powell, a 1966 AU graduate who is executive vice president of the Alabama Cattlemen's Association; Dr. Ronald Prestage, a 1982 AU graduate who operates Prestage Equine Clinic in Camden, S.C., and is president of Prestage Farms; James Sanford, a 1968 AU graduate who chairs Home Place Farms, Inc. and is active in several agricultural and civic enterprises; Dr. George Seier Jr., a 1972 AU graduate and partner in a Prattville veterinary clinic; Dr. Johnny Mac Smith, a 1976 AU graduate who owns and operates a farm in Versailles, Ky., and who serves on the board of directors of Senepol Cattle Breeders; Judith Thompson, a Leeds attorney and a breeder of Andalusian horses; and Paris Wixon, president of a Hope Hull ranch that breeds, raises, trains and exhibits American Quarter Horses.
