One would assume that a promising career in engineering awaits the Auburn native. But the 22-year-old Warfield will return to the books this fall -- at the Harvard University School of Law. "I'll be studying international law," he says. "I want to work for an international consulting engineering firm." Warfield in 1994 participated in the Study Abroad Program, spending six months in an internship with a civil engineering and construction firm in Stuttgart, Germany. Although he said the experience did not influence his decision to pursue a law career, it did confirm his desire to practice international law. "I became interested in law during high school," he said. "I thought I'd gotten over it when I enrolled in the engineering program at Auburn, but I didn't." Well into his second year as an engineering major, Warfield said he knew he didn't want to be a practicing engineer. "So I started taking pre-law classes along with my engineering courses," he said. All the while, Warfield also held down a 20-30-hour-per week job and remained active in campus organizations and intramural sports. "If possible, I'd like for my law work to be related to engineering," he added. "What's more important to me, though, is to have a job where I can travel." Warfield is the son of Carol Warfield, professor and head of the Department of Consumer Affairs at AU's School of Human Sciences. # # # june95:AU-warfield CONTACT: Warfield, 334/821-0366.
