-------------------- N E W S R E L E A S E -------------------- Auburn University - University Relations (334) 844-9999 ---------------------------------------------------------------- 6/1/95 Mitch Emmons (emmonmb@mail.auburn.edu) FIVE AU STUDENTS AWARDED NASA FELLOWSHIPS AND SCHOLARSHIPS AUBURN -- Two Auburn University graduate students have each been awarded a $20,000 research fellowship, while three others have received $1,000 scholarships from NASA through the Alabama Space Grant Consortium. Scott Bounds of Huntsville, a doctoral student in physics, and Kenneth Hammett of Stone Mountain, Ga., a masters' degree student in electrical engineering, were among 37 students awarded $20,000 graduate research fellowships at ASGC award ceremonies May 19 at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. AU students receiving $1,000 NASA scholarships were Belma Ford of Auburn, a computer science and biology major; Damon Love of Montgomery, computer engineering; and Algeron Stanley of Huntsville, civil engineering. Each $20,000 graduate research fellowship includes a stipend, tuition support and money for research expenses. Each fellowship is co-sponsored by NASA and the student's university. AU is among six doctorate-granting university members of the consortium.
