The Foret's, of Gulf Breeze, Fla., could be called a "true blue" Auburn family. Father Ted, a member of the 1957 national championship football team, and mother Juie, who attended Auburn from 1957-60, have been paying tuition to AU for 17 years -- every quarter since 1978 for all six of their children. Auburn Admissions Director Charles Reeder says the Foret family is remarkable in their Auburn spirit and numbers. "To have all the children from one family attend Auburn is unusual," he says. "We do have a lot of legacies here and Auburn is a traditional school, but usually you have one child who will go his own way. "I do think the number of children and the fact they all came here is great. Each and every one of them must have had a positive experience at Auburn and we congratulate them." The first Foret child to attend Auburn was Ted III, who graduated in 1982, followed by Renee, '84; Robin, '85; Todd, '88; Thad, '90; and now Reece. In addition, the two married Foret children have spouses who are Auburn alumni -- Robin is married to John Cornett, '85; and Todd is married to the former Carole Hunt, '89. Mrs. Foret's parents, the late James Smith and Julia Martin Smith, started the Auburn tradition, with Mr. Smith graduating in 1937. Mrs. Smith attended Auburn, majoring in agriculture, but never completed her degree. "I remember my mother and father talking about going to Auburn, and as a child we'd have to go through Auburn to go to my grandparents," she said. I've always had very special memories of Auburn." Mrs. Foret says and her husband feel like they've invested well in their childrens' educations. "We feel Auburn is a good investment for the money and we think they've all gotten a good investment in life from attending Auburn," she said. "Auburn teaches you about life, and Ted and I loved our years there. Our love of Auburn is one of the best lessons we've given to our children." Mrs. Foret said she met her husband in a college class -- English Literature 253. Foret, who was a tackle on the 1957 national championship team, graduated AU in 1960 and the couple left for Canada for two years, where he played in the Canadian Football League. Mrs. Foret completed her college education and taught school for 17 years, while Foret was part owner and president of a computer company. Several years ago they retired and moved to Gulf Breeze, where they opened Foret Builders. Three of the six children work in the company, and Ted III owns his own business related to the family company. Mrs. Foret says she doesn't remember any of her children voicing opinions of attending college anywhere but AU. "As far as I know none of them applied to anywhere but Auburn," she said."It's pretty much all they knew." Speaking for the Foret children, Reese, who will graduate with a degree in fine arts, says the Auburn tradition in her family is cherished by all the siblings. "We're very proud of our parents and what they taught us, especially about Auburn," he said. "And we want them to know how much we appreciate it." With three granddaughters -- Todd's daughter Caroline and Robin's twin Anna and Lilly, Mrs. Foret expects more family members to head to Auburn. "We'll have to wait about 16 years or so for them to be old enough, however." # # # june95:AU-foret CONTACT: Juie Foret, 904/932-6159; Reese Foret, 334/826-0112; Reeder, 334/844-4080.
