-------------------- N E W S R E L E A S E -------------------- Auburn University - University Relations (334) 844-9999 ---------------------------------------------------------------- 5/25/95 Sam Hendrix (334/844-3698) AU'S BARTELS WINS EXECUTIVE SEAT ON AVMA DISTRICT BOARD AUBURN -- Jan Bartels, professor and head of the Department of Radiology in Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine, has been elected to the American Veterinary Medical Association's regional executive board. Bartels, who assumes the six-year post in July, will represent some 9,000 AVMA members in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina and Tennessee. The executive board -- the AVMA's policy arm -- appropriates a $12 million-plus budget and directs membership services, elections, committee appointments and governmental relations. The last Alabamian to serve on the board was the late James Greene, former dean of the Auburn College of Veterinary Medicine who was a member in the early 1970s. An AU faculty member since 1967, Bartels became department head in 1978. Since 1990, he has directed the Ware Imaging Center at AU. Bartels holds the DVM degree from Washington State University and the master's degree from Ontario Veterinary College. He is also board certified in radiology. # # # may95:AU-bartels
