Assistant Professor Stanley Reeves will use the funds over the next three years to develop improvements to the magnetic resonance spectroscopic technology. Unlike magnetic resonance imaging which reflects anatomy, MRS images show function. Although the technology shows promise, it is limited by the amount of time it takes to produce a high-resolution image. Reeves' objective is to develop a new algorithm that will enable MRS scanning to gather the most important information first, thus, improving image quality and resolution as well as reducing imaging time. The Whitaker Foundation is a private, nonprofit organization that supports biomedical engineering research. Reeves' award was among 42 grants totaling $7.5 million given by the foundation. # # # may95:AU-whitakerawd CONTACT: Reeves, 334/844-1821
